Ingersoll Cutting Tools utilizes both R&D and manufacturing processes to improve productivity and efficiency while reducing costs and environmental impact. Design and production processes at Ingersoll integrate advanced technologies and digital processes, such as additive manufacturing and smart software systems, to achieve innovation and a competitive advantage while reducing material, energy, and resource usage. Key areas of focus for sustainability in design include using eco-friendly materials, minimizing waste, reducing energy consumption, designing for longevity, and ensuring ethical supply chain practices.
Our longstanding mission statement and quality policy – “The mission of Ingersoll Cutting Tool Company is to be the supplier of choice for cutting tool products and services by offering solutions that will provide the customer with quality parts at the lowest total cost.” – directly contributes to our and our customers’ sustainability initiatives. By investigating and implementing sustainable design practices, Ingersoll can create products that are environmentally friendly in addition to being functional and economically viable. Cutting tools are of great importance to sustainability initiatives and cost improvement. While the cost of cutting tools is less than 4% of machining costs, they can account for up to 40% of the total downtime of machine tools and indirectly affect 30% of the total machining cost. A more durable and capable a cutting tool greatly improves cost effectiveness and energy efficiency.
We regard societal engagement as an investment in our employees, our community, and our business. These activities and efforts encompass multiple areas and will increase over time. As a part of the IMC corporation, which is part of the Berkshire Hathaway organization, Ingersoll’s sustainability efforts are local, national, and international in nature. Ingersoll’s local initiatives involve a variety of employee events and activities, supporting and sponsoring community events and organizations and involvement in education partnerships.
